I want to Save My Marriage From Divorce
More and more today married couples decide to get a divorce because they think that is the easiest way out of their situation. Unfortunately, that attitude has meant the number of married couples choosing divorce is rising alarmingly. But there still are many couples asking if there are ways to save marriage from divorce.
For most married couples, the last thing you want to hear is your life as a couple is about to come to an end. Your world seems to be coming to a screeching halt as your partner suggests they want a divorce.
The thought of divorce is mind numbing but there are things you can do to save your marriage. But you first must be willing and committed to doing whatever it takes to bring your marriage back from the edge of disaster.
- One of the things you can do to save your marriage from divorce is to take some time and try and figure out what made you happy with each other when you first met.
- Another thing you must do is stop blaming your spouse or yourself for your marriage problems and why things didn’t turn out the way you wanted them to be. Stop blaming each other and instead try supporting each other through your present struggles. Constantly thinking about whose fault it is will keep you from being able to move forward.
- You need to accept where you are at the present time and start take steps that will bring you closer to compromise, understanding and resolution.
- You need to try and figure out what is important to each of you in your marriage. Maybe start by asking each other what marriage means to each of you. I am sure you are going to find out that you have differences in your ideas and expectations. Now you have to find ways of working on these differences that is agreeable to both of you and will make you both happy. You will also have to agree on an action plan that will help you achieve your goal of saving your marriage from divorce.
- You need to commit yourselves to these action steps that will restore your marriage. And you will have to live up to your word. It won’t be easy but you must try your best not to fall back into your old habits, you know the ones that put a strain on your marriage to begin with.
- Next you need to listen to what each of you is saying. I don’t mean just hear each other but actually listen and try and understand each other’s feelings and perspective.
- Respect each other in everything. That means the way each of you treat the other and want to do what is best for the other even putting the others needs and wants ahead of their own. Now this doesn’t work if it is only one way but you will probably find that it is a little lopsided to begin with as one is usually able to do this better than the other at first.
- Finally you need to be willing to compromise with each other. There is no one path or one solution and so compromise is what marriages are built on.
The willingness to save your marriage is best coming from both of you. If just one of you is willing to work at it there is still hope but it will be a much longer path.
